![]() 98 Degrees is a group of four fine guys, Jeff Timmons, Nick Lachey, Drew Lachey (his brother) and Justin Jeffre. They like to be compared to Boys II Men, and they have distinctive harmonies and they can write their own songs. All of them are from Ohio, originally, and they signed with Motown Records on April 3, 1996 right after ONE audition! It all started when Jeff got ditched by his other band members, except for one named John Lipman. But Jeff still believed that if he tried hard enough he could still get noticed. So he and John went looking for other members. Then Nick Lachey came along. He was recommended to Jeff by an old band member, so he moved from Cincinnati to L.A. to join the group. Even though they sounded great together, they still needed fuller harmonies so then Justin Jeffre joined up. He was a guy Nick knew and once he came, they had four guys. They practiced everywhere but didn't get anywhere! So, John quit after 5 or 6 months and the group was down to three. Nick then decided to call in his little bro, Drew. Drew quit his job as an EMT in NY and came down to LA to join the rest of the guys. Finally, 98 Degrees was born! Their first album, the self-titled debut album, released only one single, the massive hit, "Invisible Man". Later, another single was added to the album called "Was It Something I Didn't Say". Now with the new album, 98 Degrees & Rising, the guys are more involved this time around with their songwriting and producing efforts. The recording process took place over two-and -a-half months in many different cities, such as New York, Nashville, Los Angeles and Vancouver. In their new album, 98 Degrees & Rising, there are many major producers involved like the Trackmasters , Pras of the Fugees , Keith Thomas and Anders Bagge . With all these different people working together on the album, the result is that it has the influence of hip-hop, r&b, euro dance and much more on the songs. The first song recorded for 98 Degrees & Rising was the Disney song "True to Your Heart", an upbeat duet with harmonica legend Stevie Wonder. Working with Stevie Wonder was 98 Degrees' dream come true, because they are lifelong fans. When they performed that song on Jay Leno's Tonight Show it was a great time for the guys. Then came the song with Pras, called "Fly wih Me". 98 Degrees co-wrote and co-produced the song and it has a sample from ABBA's "Dancing Queen". But for the romantic fans, don't you worry, 'cause there will be many romantic songs on 98 Degrees & Rising. "Because of You" and "I Do (Cherish You)" are the upcoming album's most tender tunes. There is also the acoustic guitar-accented homage to true love song called "Still", which is a tune co-written and co-produced by 98 Degrees and Sean and Dane . Another special song on the album is their a cappella performance of Michael Jackson's classic "She's Out of My Life". With 98 Degrees & Rising
out, the group has taken the next step up in a stage of their flourishing
career. They are truely an amazing group.
